چکیده

INTRODUCTION Recently, attention has been drawn to the influence of smear layer removal on apical seal, and the relation of root canal filling material with canal wall surface in the presence and absence of the smear layer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of the smear layer removal on the apical sealing ability of AH26 sealer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty extracted human anterior teeth were used in this study. All teeth were decoronated at CEJ. Root canals were prepared; and before obturation, they were randomly divided into two groups (n=17): Group A in which the smear layer was left intact, and in Group B smear layer was removed. Six roots were served as controls. After obturation, microleakage was measured by the electrochemical method for 30 days with 3-day intervals. Data were then analyzed by using Mann-Whitney test. RESULTS Based on the results of this study, in the absence of the smear layer, a highly significant decrease of apical leakage was found (P<0.001). CONCLUSION This study showed that the removal of the smear layer can significantly improve the apical sealing ability of AH26 sealer.

Bacterial leakage in root canals filled with resin-based and mineral trioxide aggregate-based sealers

BACKGROUND Sealing ability is one of the most important features of endodontic sealers. The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the sealing ability of a resin-based sealer with a mineral trioxide aggregate-based sealer. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 60 single-rooted extracted human teeth were randomly divided into two experimental groups (n = 25) and two control groups (n = 5). A...

Evaluation of microleakage following application of a dentin bonding agent as root canal sealer in the presence or absence of smear layer.

The aim of this study was to compare the apical leakage of roots obturated with gutta-percha using either an epoxy resin sealer (AH26) or a dual cure dentin binding agent (Excite DSC) as sealer in the presence or absence of smear layer with fluid filtration method. The canals of eighty-six, single-rooted premolars were instrumented until a #40 K-file fit at working length and then randomly divi...

بررسی مقایسه‌‌ای توانایی سه سیلر مختلف در ایجاد مهر و موم کانال ریشه

Background and Aim: Complete obturation of the prepared root canal is an essential step in endodontic treatment. Combination of gutta-percha and a sealer is widely used in clinical practice for root canal obturation, thus microleakage studies on sealing properties of these materials constitute an important part of endodontic researches. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of ...

مقایسه آزمایشگاهی ریزنشت باکتریایی بعد از تهیه فضای پست در کانال ریشه پرشده با گوتاپرکا و سیلر AH26 یاDorifil

Introduction & Objective: The success of root canal therapy depends on the ability to establish and maintain an apical seal, therefore, it is important, that post space preparation do not disrupt the integrity of the apical seal. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of immediate versus delayed post space preparation on the apical seal using AH26 and Dorifil sealers. Materials...

An In-Vitro Evaluation of Sealing Ability of Real Seal Using Fluid Filtration

INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to compare the sealing ability of Real Seal (RS) and Gutta-percha (GP). MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty nine extracted human maxillary central incisors were used. The coronal part of each tooth was removed, the root canal was prepared using the crown down technique and apical enlargement to rotary file # 40. The specimens were randomly divided in to 3 groups...
